System Support for Private Municipal Cooling System Company
Project Description
Contracted with the company that owns and operates one of the
world's largest district cooling systems, currently serving clients with an alternative to the installation and operation of in-building chilling plants.
SD·I manages the daily information operations of a 200-component Local Area Network (LAN) for the company thereby helping it manage quality control. By evaluating, purchasing, and securing software and hardware, developing information storage, and running multiple operating systems, SD·I created a network that enables the company and its dependents to share information.
This corporate LAN is also integrated with a Wide Area Network (WAN) that communicates across six plants, client buildings, and professionals at off-site locations. There is also integration with the corporate network for e-mail and internet access.
Project Goals
The energy industry demands that firms use their network to communicate
to the fullest potential. Our client wanted a user-friendly LAN
to manage and standardize documents and information to help the company's internal departments share data and work together to produce the best results for its clients' real estate owners.
SD·I Services
- Maintain networked equipment, which includes workstations, file servers, plotters, and printers
- Troubleshoot hardware/software maintenance and repair
- Develop information storage and architecture improvements
- Secure hardware and software systems
- Provide inventory control usage reports
- Schedule and implement backup and recovery plans
- Coordinate warranty programs for equipment
- Coordinate the purchase of software and hardware
- Maintain a help desk to give phone support and dispatch service representative, if required (8x5)
- Upgraded plant control network WAN from 10MB to switched 100MB network and provide additional connectivity to customer sites
- Provided technology to upgrade internal plant connectivity from 10 MB ThinNet to 100 MB CAT5 Ethernet
- Manage access controls system database or plant security
Project Results
The SD·I managed network helps our client serve its customers by enabling both the corporate employees and plant engineers to share information while completing projects. This, combined with standard graphics and applications developed by SD·I ,
helps our client enhance quality control and meet engineering
industry standards.
