In line with SD·I's focus on the education industry and our commitment to community involvement, the firm maintains a partnership with the Chicago Public Schools by way of the First Chance Initiative (FCI) internship program. SD·I created this program to provide public high school students with an opportunity to learn and to apply their skills to real life projects.
FCI was born out of the City of Chicago's 1994 contract with SD·I to construct the digital base map for the new emergency 911 dispatch system. The students participated in the creation of a computerized super map complete with every street, alley and more than 800,000 building structures.
At SD·I, the students' experiences encompass much more than learning about computer applications, engineering, and high-technology. They work in a professional environment, produce within deadlines, and communicate effectively.
Over the life of the program, SD·I has paid over $313,000 in salaries and scholarship funds.
SD·I approaches the education industry with an in-depth understanding of the practices of the industry, specific methods for implementations and services, broad understanding of industry software products, and quality delivery. With education, we also consider the end user in this industry is very special (i.e. the students, instructors, and parents involved in the use of technology services and products).
With over a decade of experience in large-scale development and support and experience with some of the largest organizations in the education industry, SD·I has a unique perspective and understanding to solve problems in the education industry. SD·I's education experience includes Higher Education/Community College and K-12 covering the following areas:
Administration Systems
Academic Systems
Infrastructure Services
From classrooms to server rooms, we're there.
