SD·I Volunteerism at the Greater Chicago Food Depository

Community-Focused and Team-Building 11th-Year Program Allows Employees to Make a Difference in the Community

Chicago, IL, October 6, 2007 - Employees, friends, and family of SD·I (System Development·Integration, LLC.), a systems integrator focusing on mission-critical systems and infrastructure of capital asset intensive organizations that are directly impacted by Homeland Security issues and property ownership responsibilities, joined together for a day of volunteerism at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD)

As Chicago's food bank, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is the charitable food distribution hub for Cook County. The organization's state-of-the-art warehouse distributes food to 600 member soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters. Everyday the GCFD serves thousands of people, 9% of which are homeless. The rest of GDFD’s service base includes children, elderly, and those in poor health. A significant 39% of the households who receive food from the Food Depository include at least one employed adult, and must supplement their meals with help from the Food Depository.

Part of the firm’s commitment ot corporate citizenry, the SD·I Team was assigned to repackage bulk shipments of bread for individual portions. After three hours of breaking down banana boxes, labeling loaves, quality checks, and repackaging, the group turned out 1,432 servings of bread to be distributed to thousands of Chicago-area residents this week. Several participants commented on the experience, "The hunger statistics are unbelievable," Stated Dawn Nash Pfeiffer, SD·I Vice President of Marketing. "It definitely felt good to work together to make a difference."
