Computer networks connect us to each other, to the Internet, and to enterprise applications; they are vital in this interconnected, net-centric world. Requiring specialized skills, and constantly evolving, today's networks are extremely challenging to manage, even for the most sophisticated IT staff. SDI offers a wide range of network services, with experience gained from working with large, complex, mission-critical networks for large clients in public safety, transportation, and government.
Traditional Hard-Wired Networks: Hard-wired networks utilize CAT and fiber cabling, switches and routers to handle network traffic. SDI has experience in the design, implementation, and support of the full range of hard-wired networks in use today, including:
-
Cisco certified engineers: SDI has a wide range of Cisco-certified engineers that can handle the most complex network design, implementation and support. Our certified engineers currently support networks at large organizations like transit systems, 9-1-1 centers, and Airports.
-
Design, build, and support LAN/WAN: SDI offers a full range of services for all aspects of network design, implementation, and support. Our experience ranges form single offices all the way to very large organizations with multiple locations and wide area networks that span hundreds of miles. Whatever the scale or network challenge, we have the skills to tackle any network project.
-
High availability, resilient, high performance: Many of SDI's clients require the highest levels of capacity and security for the transmission of live video, secure encrypted data, and large transaction loads. SDI designs, implements, and supports high-capacity networks that utilize system redundancy, intrusion detection, load balancing, and other techniques to ensure that even the most extreme network loads are handled efficiently.
-
24/7/365 Network Monitoring: To keep mission-critical networks running smoothly, constant vigilance is required. SDI monitors networks for large clients 24/7/365 for throughput and load balancing, intrusion detection, and equipment uptime. Our Network Operations Center communicates in real time with network equipment at client sites to ensure that problems are detected and resolved quickly.
-
Fiber Optic design, implementation and support: The fastest networks today utilize fiber optics to handle large traffic loads efficiently. SDI has designed and implemented high-capacity fiber optic systems that carry terabytes of data securely and reliably.
-
Long term support through our SmartSourcingSM program: Network systems continue to evolve, and require extremely specialized skills. Many clients outsource their network management to SDI so they can focus on their core business.
Wireless Networks: Wireless networks have become increasingly popular as a way to keep mobile workers connected and productive. While wireless adds a new tool for CIOs, it also brings new security concerns and added complexity in the IT infrastructure. SDI has extensive experience in many wireless technologies, and can assist in designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise wireless systems.
-
Wi-Fi: SDI has extensive experience designing and implementing large Wi-Fi systems, including security policies, centralized management and intrusion detection. Our Wireless Team has implemented hundreds of Wi-Fi systems in indoor, outdoor, and wide area environments.
-
Wireless Mesh: When you need to cover large exterior areas, but it is not practical to extend network connectivity to every wireless access point, wireless mesh may be the answer. Wireless Mesh systems do not need a network connection for every access point. Mesh routers relay the signal from one unit to another until it reaches to network-connected base unit, allowing deployment of many antennas with very few network connections. This dramatically reduces cost while increasing coverage. Wireless mesh systems have been used to cover huge metropolitan areas in dozens of cities, and SDI has experience deploying them in high-capacity, high-security scenarios.
-
Microwave: To transmit very high speeds over long distances, microwave transmission is highly effective. SDI has successfully spanned distances as great as 40 miles using microwave transmission. We have even been able to 'bend' signals to avoid line-of-sight obstacles using innovative new technologies. Whether connecting remote sites or spanning geographical obstacles, SDI can design a microwave system that will provide high performance at a cost far lower than physical cabling.
-
Public Safety Wireless: SDI's Public Safety clients require robust, secure connectivity on wavelengths that are reserved for Public Safety agencies. We have implemented 4.9GHz frequency wireless systems for voice, data and video for Public Safety clients that provide mission-critical connectivity.
-
Mobile Video: With today's digital video systems, surveillance video streams are no longer confined to the security office. SDI has implemented wireless video streaming systems that provide mobile staff with the same access to video as if they were physically plugged into the network. Extending situational awareness to mobile officers provides an extremely valuable tool to Public Safety managers.
-
PDAs and Mobile computing: The proliferation of cell phones, smart phones, and PDAs, organizations now have another way to keep mobile workers in touch and productive. SDI can help develop, deploy, and manage mobile applications that link to enterprise systems, alert staff to news, events, or emergencies, and even transmit live video.
